NOV 2, KATHMANDU. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has urged top leaders of the four major political parties to forge consensus at the earliest not to keep the nation in transition for long.
Dr. Yadav also urged the leaders to bring the budget and find out political outlet through consensus.
During the meeting held at the Presidential Palace, Sheetal Niwas, this morning, he stressed on the need of forging consensus though it may take few more days, adding that he wants to see consensus among political parties from his status as the president.
After the meeting, the top leaders of political parties said that President Dr. Yadav urged them to forge consensus on all issues including budget.
The President had called Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, Chairman of the CPN-UML, Jhalanath Khanal and Chairman of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, at the Presidential Palace this morning to end the political stalemate.
The leaders said that consensus was very close for going for elections but they will forge consensus completely on different issues including process of election, constitution amendment and number of lawmakers in the Constituent Assembly by holding meetings.
President Dr. Yadav said that he will accept decisions of the parties and urged to come by forging consensus on all issues, said Koirala quoting the President. Dr. Yadav urged to forge consensus immediately not to keep the nation in transition for long and to bring budget and find out political outlet through consensus, said Gachchhadar quoting the president.
Stating that election will be held only on consensus, Gachchhadar said the issue has been stuck on formation of consensus government.
further said that a national consensus government would be formed and added consensus would be forged on all the issues within the end of November if consensus is not forged within mid-November.
Party leaders now have expressed commitment to go for fresh elections. They expressed their views to the President that they will forge consensus on various issues including election, national consensus government and budget within mid-November if possible, otherwise, by the end of November.
But they admitted that the issue of formation of national consensus government was still complex.
Similarly, Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, familiarized President Dr. Yadav that discussions are underway among political parties on various issues and were closer to consensus on it and added that efforts are underway to forge consensus as some issues are more complex.
CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that the President expressed worries over the failure to forge consensus among the government, parties in government and the opposition parties.
President Dr. Yadav said consensus was necessary, so parties should forge consensus by holding serious and regular meetings, said Khanal quoting the President. RSS
