Rice plantation almost complete

SEPT 9, KATHMANDU. Rice plantation in different parts of the country this year has completed by 97 per cent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture Development.

Rice is cultivated in 73 districts (except Manang and Mustang) in the country. This year, rice plantation has increased by six per cent compared to last year.

Rice is cultivated in 1,526,000 hectares of arable land in Nepal. Normally, a season for rice plantation in the hilly region begins from the second week of June whereas in Terai, it starts from the last week. Rice plantation is concluded by the first week of September.

According to Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr Prabhakar Pathak, Mohattari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari districts did not receive sufficient rainfall in the rice cultivation season and this is likely to affect the rice production in these districts.

Rice is the main crop in Nepal and contributes 52 per cent in the total crops production in the country. RSS
