Talking to media persons after the Constituent Assembly ( CA) meeting Thursday, leader Khanal said demand for preparing questionnaire on the already settled issues and taking them to a voting process has come with ill intentions and it could not be considered under any circumstance.

His statement was in relation to the call made by Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Nepal for taking the issues of republic, federalism and secularism to a voting by developing questionnaire on the same. The RPP Nepal which has been advocating for restoration of Hindu state in the country for a long time reiterated its demand in the today’s CA meeting too.

The CA has already initiated the process of developing questionnaire on the remaining contentious issues of the new constitution with the formation of a committee to that end. The RPP Nepal boycotted today’s Questionnaire Committee meeting while the CA extended its term by another five days.

Describing RPP-Nepal’s obstruction to the CA business as an exercise of right guaranteed by democracy, leader Khanal urged all to take it accordingly.

However, RPP Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa argued that it was their right to raise questions over the issues of the new constitution and their voices be addressed. We are ready to accept the result (whether in our favour or not) of voting, but, the issues should not be barred from entering the voting process at all. Differing views should also be respected in a democracy.

Nineteen political parties represented in the CA including the UCPN (Maoist) and Madhesh-centric parties were not present in today’s CA meeting.RSS
