CA extends term of Questionnaire Committee by five days

5 Feb, Kathmandu : The meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) held today has extended the term of the Proposal Drafting Committee by five days.

Subash-nembangSenior-most member of the Questionnaire Committee Kul Bahadur Gurung said the committee has been forwarding its works and proposed extension of its term by five days, citing the earlier five days given to the committee to prepare the questionnaire were not sufficient.

The CA meeting passed the proposal unanimously. Gurung, who stood on the rostrum, was prevented from speaking for a while after the lawmakers of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal chanted various slogans and disrupted the meeting. However, the proposal was passed amidst the sloganeering and hassles in the CA Meeting Hall.

The lawmakers claimed that the formulation of the committee was against the spirit of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2007 and the CA regulations. They said the CA failed to recognize the voice of RPP Nepal.

Senior-most member of the committee Gurung later informed about the approval of the Committee work procedures by the CA while presenting a proposal on its term extension.

Gurung further said the Committee held meeting thrice and formed a Sub-committee under the Coordination of CA member Ramesh Lekhak and proposed term extension to complete the remaining tasks.

Earlier, The CA meeting also inducted lawmaker Hari Charan Sah of Janata Dal as a member of the Committee. Sah has been appointed the member of the Committee by way of giving full shape to the 73-member Committee proposed by the CA on January 25, said CA chairman Subash Nembang. The committee now has 50 members with the induction of Sah.

The CA meeting on January 25 declared 49 lawmakers’ name as members of the 73-member committee amid the protest of the Unified CPN (Maoist) led alliance of the opposition parties. RSS
