Chief District Officer in Sindhupalchowk, Krishna Gyawali, said that Tatopani, Listi, Piskar, Mankha, Ramche, Bhotang, among other settlements are at high risk.

He said that the locals requested the administration to shift them to safer zones, saying the settlements are at high risk due to the dry landslide and fissures following the devastating quake.

A 12-member team of geologists had few days ago carried out study about the geographical situation of the areas, which are at high risk, and told that the settlements are at risk.

Talking to the National News agency (RSS), leaders of different political parties, who returned after on site visit of the district, said that a great incident could take place if the settlements were not shifted to safe places before rainy season.

NC General Secretary Krishna Sitaula, who has returned after visiting the earthquake affected VDCs including Baruwa, Banskharka, Duwachaur in Sindhupalchowk Constituency No 3, stressed on the need of managing safe temporary shelters before the rainy season for they have the risks of landslide. The Government would later work to reconstruct the permanent structures.

He said the landslide in the area have completely destroyed the cement and stone houses, monasteries, and shrines.

He also suggested to shift the settlement at Baruwa VDC as some wards at the VDC have risks of dry landslide so the administration should work to bring them to the safer places before the rainy season begins, said NC General Secretary Sitaula.

Reliefs have not reached at the upper part of the Baruwa VDC where some people have gone missing so far. As many as 121 people were killed in quake in Baruwa VDC itself.

Similarly, CPN UML leader and lawmaker Amrit Kumar Bohara also pointed out the need of shifting the risky settlement to the safer zones before the rainy seasons.

He added that the quake affected people should be resettled in their respective village or nearby village rather than shifting to another districts if it was possible.

Leader Bohara further added that some villagers have randomly left the village without proper study about the possible risk therefore they should be consulted with the experts. RSS
