Nepalis being shortchanged in Indian towns

ic-note

Dhanusha, October 6

Due to the Indian blockade and the general shutdown in the Madhesh, Nepalis are being shortchanged in bordering Indian towns, Naya Patrika has written in its today’s edition.

Banks and financial institutions have closed due to the shutdown. This has given Indian traders an opportunity to cheat Nepalis, who enter India to buy goods. As per the prevailing exchange rate, INR (Indian rupees) 100 fetch NRs (Nepali currency) 160. Shashi Bhusan Gupta of Mahendranagar-2 says these days people like him have to pay Rs 168-170 to get INR 100. Traders of bordering Indian towns like Basopatti, Jayanagar, Duhabi, Bhittamod, Sursand and Banhawa are cheating Nepalis, who reach these places to buy essentials.
