Despite crises resulting from Indian blockade, PM Oli appears far from frugal

PM's billOnline Khabar

Kathmandu, November 24. Even in times of hardships resulting from the Indian blockade and the Madhesh Movement, it may be quite interesting to know how much the Prime Minister’s Official Residence spends under different topics. It will be little wonder if people, after reading this piece, start seething with anger.

While people have been finding it hard to prepare their food due to the blockade, at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar things have been going quite smoothly, with grand feasts taking place once in a while. The bills themselves expose this extravaganza.

After Oli became Prime Minister, the office has spent Rs 12.5 lakh on feasts and snacks alone!

This came to light after Anmol Catering moved the Prime Minister’s Office seeking Rs 12,61, 189 for feasts and snacks. The PMO made the bills public on its website.

A serious reader?

In the month of Kartik, Prime Minister Oli seems to have hooked himself to different newspapers and magazines. Acharya Trader and Suppliers Private Limited has submitted to the PMO a bill bearing Rs 1,28,255 under this topic. It should be noted that Kartik was a month of holidays this year with Dashain and Tihar falling in the month, meaning hardly any newspaper and magazines got published in the said month.

Geeky PM?

The PMO also purchased an iPad costing  Rs 1,17,407 after Oli became PM. It’s unclear whether it was meant for the premier or someone else. On Tuesday, Global Link Technology moved the PMO seeking payment for purchase of the iPad.

The PMO also wrote to the Finance Ministry asking for the payment of bills amounting to Rs 1,48,438, for aluminium partition at Baluwatar. It has spent Rs 59,358 on purchase of logos and batches for the Council of Ministers.

At the same time, a team comprising Industries Minister Som Nath Pandey and others spent

Rs 1,07,545 in Palpa and Rupandehi during the period. While Youth and Sports Minister Satya Narayan Mandal’s Rupandehi visit cost the state exchequer Rs 35,590, as the bill suggests.

Forty-five days have passed since Oli became prime minister, but the government has not yet bothered to make property details of Oli and other Cabinet ministers public.
