Itahari, November 29. Home Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet presided over a review of the security situation in five eastern Tarai districts, on Sunday. After the meeting, Minister Basnet said vehicles will ply the East-West Highway in the daytime as well.
These days, vehicles do not ply the vital artery without security cover, in view of insecurity arising from the Madhesh Movement.
Home Secretary Narayan Malego, Nepal Police IG Upendra Kant Aryal, Armed Polic Force IG Kosh Raj Vanta, National Investigation Department Chief Eastern Regional Administrator Rajendra Prasad Nepal, Nepal Police DIG in the East Madhav Raj Joshi and Bahini’s DIG Nirakar Bikram Shah had also taken part in the meeting held at APF’s Pakali-based Baraha Bahini in Sunsari. At the meeting, securocrats and administration officials had informed Basnet about the security situation in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari and Siraha.
Minister Basnet talked to journalists after the meeting. “We will not bow to India,” he said pledging to make security arrangements that will allow vehicles to ply the vital artery even during daytime.
After the review meeting, the team comprising Home Minister Basnet and securocrats has reached Bardibas of Mahottarai. There, they will review the security situation in central Tarai.
