Nepalese students return home due to Gorkhaland movement

AUG 25, KATHMANDU. Nepalese students have been admitting in schools here after returning from Darjeeling due to the Gorkhaland movement in Darjeeling of West Bengal of India.

Thousands of students from Nepal reach Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong and other places in India with the belief that in Nepal there is no quality education like India due to various agitations and strikes here.

Robita Shrestha studying in Class 3 in Saint Helen Boarding School in Kurseong has admitted at Galaxy Public School in Kathmandu recently.

The school established in 1890 is closed for until another notice doe to the Gorkhaland movement. Daughter of Rosesh Shrestha and Binu Shrestha of Dharan, Robita was studying in the school for the past two years staying in hostel.

She was admitted to the same class here in the middle of academic session as she had not brought transfer certificate. Similarly, some students returning from India have been admitted at Shubhatara School in Lalitpur.

Most Nepalese students returned with her as school was not opened due to strikes demanding Gorkhaland State, and she was now happy to study in Nepal than in India.

A movement is ongoing under the leadership of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha demanding separate state after Telangana state was recognized by dividing Andhra Pradesh in India.

The movement is ongoing after the party’s assistant secretary Binaya Tamang and other leaders were arrested. Whatever the reason, Nepalese students are happy that they have returned home. We can give education as expected by the parents, say operators of schools here.

Galaxy School Headmaster and N-PABSON Chairman Geeta Rana says some students have returned home after the movement, and they were ready to provide education as per the expectations of the students and parents. PABSON General Secretary DK Dhungana said the return of students from India is positive. He said some 500,000 students are studying in Indian schools.

They go to India with the misconception that there is no good education in Nepal and because of open border, he said. Raya School Headmaster of Jorpati, KP Pandey said they were ready to help those returning students as per the curriculum as it was their school’s responsibility. RSS
