Kathmandu, October 9. The United States has asked its citizens to evaluate their plans to undertake multi-day travel in Nepal in the wake of blockages at the border with India that has caused a fuel crisis.

In a travel advisory, it said Americans visiting Nepal may face difficulties due to ‘blockages’ at the border.  It cautioned citizens against undertaking ‘multi-day travel’, pointing that the situation could change drastically during their trip.  It cautioned citizens planning to trek in a remote area to bear in mind that rescue options “will be limited” if they become injured, until the fuel supply situation returns to normal.  It said tourist facilities continue to operate in the Kathmandu valley, but levels of service may be lower than normal.

The mission estimated the fuel situation will not return to normal until 2-3 weeks after the border supply lines are fully restored.

The European Union had already issued a statement recently, stating that it is willing to help Nepal deal with what it called a ‘humanitarian crisis’. China has also pledged all possible help for Nepal.
