Kathmandu, October 9. Friday’s meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee ended on an inconclusive note after top three leaders of the party staked claim for Prime Minister’s post. The meeting witnessed a horrible spectacle, with two senior party leaders vying for PM’s post snatching the mike from each other.

The meeting failed to make a decision on new government. At the end of the meeting, CWC members were unable to figure out what decisions the CWC took.

NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel spoke after CWC members aired their views at the meeting at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. He asked CWC members to make him a candidate for prime minister.

Speaking before Poudel, senior leader Sher Bahadur demanded election for NC Parliamentary Party. Party President Sushil Koirala said he will make a decision after consulting CWC members.

After Poudel called all to support him as a candidate for PM, CWC members raised question about the meeting’s conclusion. Immediately, Deuba snatched the mike from Poudel and said, “All three of us are candidates for PM. Whoever manages to get support from other parties shall be made the prime minister.’

Subsequently, Poudel snatched the mike from Deuba and said he will speak at the CWC after holding consultations with party’s office-bearers.

The meeting was inconclusive after all three parties announced their candidacies for the top post, a CWC member told Online Khabar.

Invisible power at work?

At the CWC meeting that went on for two days, most of NC CWC members stood in favour of forming a government under Congress leadership.

At Friday’s meeting, Ananda Dhungana and Dil Bahadur Gharti, among others, said Koirala should head the next government as well. While the Deuba camp sought election for NC parliamentary party leadership. Leader Gagan Thapa noted that top three leaders were in favour of forming a government under Congress leadership. He asked as to why they had kept mum on the issue so far.

They were definitely waiting for a CWC meeting, Thapa said, alleging that the three leaders were waiting for a go-ahead from an invisible power. They are vying for the post, now that the invisible power has assured them of majority support, he said.

Thapa said Congress should support any party that supports its agenda if it fails to garner support for government formation. While CWC member Bal Bahadur KC said all three leaders staked claim for PM because they all received separate indications.
