Kathmandu, October 19. UCPN-Maoist’s Tharu lawmakers have threatened to quit the party en masse over the leadership’s reluctance to address the constitution-related demands of the Tharus, and the non-inclusion of Tharus in KP Oli’s council of ministers.
According to party sources, eight Tharu lawmakers and central committee members are preparing to quit the party.
The party leadership had said the constitution would be amended within two weeks, but it has not been done, the Tharu leaders say. They are also angry that none of the eight ministers nominated by the party is a Tharu. “We are taking part in the meetings. We are thinking of tendering our resignation before Chairman Prachanda today evening or by tomorrowmorning,” one of the party’s Tharu leaders told Online Khabar.
The party is learnt to be preparing to give state minister berths to Tharu leaders. But they have said they won’t accept such berths, and would rather resign from the party.
