Another humanitarian crisis looms in Nepal: UK

Kamal Thapa

Kathmandu, November 25. Hugo Swire, Minister of State at the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, called up Nepal’s Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa on Tuesday to express concern about obstructions along the Nepal-India border.

In a press release, the British Embassy in Kathmandu said the two had positive and fruitful conversation.

In course of the talks, Swire expressed worry about the impact that the obstructions had caused in the distribution of humanitarian relief in Nepal.

He asked the Nepal government to lead reconstruction efforts in the post-quake scenario, according to the statement.

Swire drew attention towards the possibility of another humanitarian crisis (after the recent spate of quakes) in the winter in the event of delay in the resolution of this problem, the press release quoted Swire as saying.

During the conversation, the British minister assured Foreign Minister Thapa that British assistance to Nepal will continue in coming days.
