23 March, Kathmandu : UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that consensus between major political parties is compulsory in disputed issues of the new constitution.

Talking to media persons in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) before leaving here for China this afternoon, the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman said elements that are obstructing the consensus efforts should be identified saying that the disputed issues have been narrowed down.

He said consensus is not far if the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) were really committed to consensus adding that the current deadlock was seen due to disputes mostly in the state-restructuring.

Saying that Nepal’s political parties should unlock the political knot, the former prime minister, however, said supports and suggestions of the neighbouring countries were needed.

Dahal said that he was continuously holding talks with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and leaders of the major political parties in the recent times to forge consensus in the contents of constitution and hoped that all parties would come for consensus and people would get constitution as per their expectations.

On the occasion, Dahal said that he is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese Communist Party and added that discussions would be held with the Chinese leaders regarding the relations between the two countries and two parties.

He shared that Nepal’s peace process and constitution writing would be discussed during his China trip and he would know the perceptions of Chinese leaders.

“Informing the Chinese leaders about Nepal’s real situation and accepting their positive recommendations is likely,” Dahal added.

Dahal is scheduled to meet the top leaders of the Chinese Communist Party though the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping is not in the itinerary.

Dahal is accompanied by his wife Sita Dahal and party general secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara. He is scheduled to return home on 28 March. RSS
