NC TO GO AHEAD WITH PROCESS FOR NEW CONSTITUTION

Kathmandu, Jan 15: The major ruling party Nepali Congress has agreed to go with the process regarding the drafting of a new constitution.

Nc-flagA meeting Thursday of the Congress parliamentary party held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar decided to take the nine-point proposal they earlier tabled at the Constitutional Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (CPDCC) before the Constituent Assembly (CA) with flexibility and take the draft approved by the CA to the Drafting Committee.

Sharing the meeting decisions with media, party Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha said the meeting, expressing its full solidarity to the Wednesday’s meeting, decided to resume the constitution-drafting through a process.

It may be noted that the NC PP meeting Wednesday decided to start a process regarding the constitution-making in accordance with the Interim Constitution and CA regulations along with giving continuity to talks and discussions among the parties for consensus on the disputed issues.

The meeting today was of the view that at least a reliable document making the people confident of the promulgation of a new constitution be brought within January 22, said party CA member Ramchandra Pokhrel after the meeting.

NC PP leader and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala remained absent in the meeting due to his busy schedule. Party Vice President Ramchandra Poudel chaired the meeting.
