Parliament okays Resolution Proposal

13 May, Kathmandu : A meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today passed unanimously the Resolution Proposal concerning distribution of relief to the earthquake victims and their rehabilitation.

The political parties on May 9 presented the proposal in the Parliament expressing deep sorrow over the unbelievable loss of human lives and physical properties due to the devastating earthquake that struck the country on April 25.

In the proposal, the parties had vowed to work with unity, collaboration and partnership forgetting all their differences.

Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Chin Kaji Shrestha, of the CPN (UML) Agni Prasad Kharel and of the UCPN (Maoist) Giriraj Mani Pokhrel are the sponsors of the proposal while the 25 parties represented in the Legislature-Parliament and two independent MPs seconded it.

The parliamentary meeting through the resolution motion instructed the government to resolutely face the national crisis with an integrated approach.
The parliament has directed the government to run the relief, rehabilitation and the task of rebuilding as a national campaign by activating all the government bodies and with efficient coordination between them to implement the extensive work plan in phases.

The government has also been called upon to provide suitable compensation in cash to the families losing members in the massive earthquake, and bear the cost of the treatment of those injured and provide additional relief to those who were disabled in the disaster.

Different lawmakers took part in the deliberation, which was held for three days in a row, giving their nod to the motion. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam had responded to the queries raised during the discussion. RSS
