Kathmandu, November 4. India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Rae, said on Wednesday that his country is not supporting the United Democratic Madheshi Front’s movement.

He said this while talking to former prime minister and CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal at the latter’s residence in Koteshwor. Ambassador Rae said India has neither imposed a blockade against Nepal nor has it supported the (Madhesh) Movement.

Expressing worry about problems that have surfaced in Nepal-India relations of late, Ambassador Rae also conveyed his concern about rise in anti-India sentiments.

“India had become happy when there were reports that talks between the government and the protesters were heading in a positive direction,” Nepal’s personal secretary Mohan Gautam quoted the diplomat as saying during the meeting.

On his part, Nepal said political parties are committed to resolving Nepal’s internal problems on the basis of consensus as far as possible. If that does not become possible, we will sort it out on the basis of optimum understanding, the UML leader said. Through Ambassador Rae, Nepal has asked the Indian government to take hardships that Nepalis are facing due to disruption of supplies seriously.

The former prime minister stressed the need to look into factors that have given rise to anti-Indian sentiments and find a solution accordingly.
