Stop complaining, curb black marketing or be ready to face action: CIAA to govt officials

AkhtiyarOnline Khabar

Kathmandu, November 29. “This is the final (last) warning to you. Be ready to face the music if you cannot control black marketing of essentials like oil and gas.”

This is the warning that chief district officers of the three districts in the Kathmadu valley, police  bosses and other officials of government offices concerned received from Krishna Hari Pushkar, spokesperson for the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, during a meeting that CIAA had convened with the CDOs, police bosses, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and other ministries concerned to discuss black marketing and other supply-related chaos in the Kathmandu Valley.

“The current market monitoring is not satisfactory. Crooks and influential people are resorting to illegal practices, while people are not getting cooking gas and oil even afterr queing up for five days,” Pushkar said. “Don’t just walk around carrying progress reports and expressing inability to take action against the crooks citing lack of information. Start taking action against those involved in irregularities or be ready to face action,” he warned.

At present, influential people are getting up to 100 litres of oil without having to wait in line, whereas others are not getting even a litre even after waiting in queue. Some have no option but to buy oil for Rs 500/litre,” he said, adding: This is lawlessness. This is not how things should be.”

At the meeting, government officials had said market monitoring has not been effective due to the lack of inter-agency coordination and lack of information.

On its part, the CIAA urged the officials to stop complaining and get working.
