OUR FLEXIBILITY CONSIDERED AS WEAKNESS: PRACHAND

Pracahand press meetKathmandu, Jan 21: Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has said that the incident of vandalism took place at the Constituent Assembly (CA) as the ruling parties considered their flexibility as a weakness.

At a news conference organised by the party here today to make the party’s views public after the CA vandalism on Monday night, Chairman Dahal said such incident took place as the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) tried to demonstrate their high-handedness at a time when they asked for two more days to forge consensus on the disputed issues.

Dahal argued that the consensus environment got foiled after the CPN (UML) and NC insisted to send the disputed issues to the Constitution Drafting Committee without consensus.

He said, “Our plan was only to obstruct the constitution writing process and chant slogans in the CA. The clash took place after the NC Chief Whip Chinkaji Shrestha, reached the rostrum forcefully with a proposal for the formation of a questionnaire committee.”

Responding to a query of media persons that the vandalism had taken place after the postponement of the CA meeting, Dahal said, “We consider that some mistakes had been made.”

He reiterated that the clash took place at the CA as the ruling parties tried to forward the constitution writing process forcefully on the basis of majority against the demand of the opposition parties of promulgating the new constitution on the basis of consensus as per the spirit of the people’s movement, Interim Constitution, and different movements.

Stating that the party had taken initiatives to forge consensus till the eleventh hour in the first CA even after having the two-third majority, Chairman Dahal stressed that there should not be any majority or minority in the CA among the partners of the 12-point agreement for the constitution writing.
