In a bid to teach cheating medical colleges a lesson, government takes new measure

Kathmandu, December 1. The Education Ministry has given students enrolling in MBBS courses the authority to deposit the fees in designated medical colleges’ bank accounts. The students can seek government help to secure their admission if the colleges refuse to enrol them and seek exorbitant fees for admission.

Ministry-of-EducationThe move is meant to prevent medical colleges from collecting exorbitant fees from students enrolling for the courses.

Under the new arrangements, students can ensure their admisssion in medical colleges, that seek fees above the ceiling, by showing the original copies of the bank vouchers, in coordination with the Institute of Medicine.

As per the law, medical colleges can charge up  to Rs 35 lakh for MBBS courses, but the colleges have been charging up to Rs 60 lakh.

There have been instances where colleges have refused to enrol deserving students if they fail to deposit the sum as per their demand.

The move coincides with the publication of MBBS entrance results.
