Kathmandu, December 17. The KP Oli government is sending a team of senior officials to Beijing for oil and trade deals with China, at a time when India does not seem willing to lift its blockade against Nepal.

The government is dispatching a group of high officials under Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa for deals encompassing oil and other trade matters, a source informed.

Preparations are afoot to send the officials to Beijing on December 23, according to the source. Bishnu Rimal, Prime Minister Oli’s chief political adviser, confirmed that a high-level team is visiting China shortly.

A high-level team under a senior minister will visit Beijing for trade agreements, Rimal said, adding: Most probably, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister will lead the team.

He said the delegation will sign different trade deals with China.

The process of Nepal’s trade diversification has begun in its true sense, according to Rimal. The team is leaving for China after several rounds of discussions with the northern neighbour.

It will comprise high officials from Finance, Commerce and Supplies and Law Ministries. But this team will not sign any energy deal with China.
