Kathmandu, October 7. Some Janajati leaders visited the Indian Embassy in Lainchaur on Wednesday to solicit Indian support for their movement. The team under Padma Ratna Tuladhar met India’s Ambassador Ranjit Ray and thanked him for his concerns over Janajati issues and movement.

The delegates asked for India’s moral support for their cause, pointing that their movement had not gained strength, unlike the Madhesh movement. They demanded India to support them, like the way it helped King Tribhuvan end the Rana regime and political parties consign monarchy to history.

The delegates said they have not supported the new constitution. They said future talks should address Janajati concerns.

Ambassador Ray said understanding among parties is all that India wants.  He said India always wants peace and prosperity in Nepal.

The Janajati delegation included Ang Kaji Sherpa, Khagendra Makhim, Mahendra Thapa Magar and Pasang Sherpa. Leaders, including Om Gurung, spokesperson for the Indigenous Nationalities Movement, could not attend the talks as they were out of the capital.
