China reopens Kerung border point, gifts food

Kathmandu, October 15. China opened the Kerung border point in Rasuwa on Thursday. Timing with this important event in ties with Nepal, China pledged seven truckloads of food as gift to Nepal. It will require more efforts to make the border point, shut after the April 25 mega-quake, fully operational as several road sections need upgrading. The food assistance is worth Rs 16 million.

Nepali and Chinese officials arrived at the border point on Wednesday evening for its formal reopening. Those attending the ceremony include Commerce Ministry Joint-secretary Jiv Nath Koirala and Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary Mani Bhattarai. Immigration officials from Kathmandu, Chinese Embassy officials, including embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Cheng, have also arrived at the border town.

Chinese Communist Party officials from Tibet had welcomed the Nepali team.
