Janakpur, December 16. Agitating Madheshi forces have been demonstrating near the Ram Janaki temple in Janakpur ahead of visit by President Bidhya Bhandari.

Protestors have clashed with police in different parts of Janakpur, including Bhanu Chowk, Jana Chowk and Shiva Chowk, and police fired several tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators.

Madeshi protestors have called for a boycott of President’s visit programme; they

also burnt an effigy of Bhandari, who is scheduled to visit Janakpur on the occasion of Biwaha Panchami.

Biwaha Panchami marks the wedding of Sita, princess of Janakpur, and Ram, prince of Ayodhya, in the ancient times. Indian ambassador Ranjit Rae is also scheduled to visit Janakpur later today.
