Kathmandu, October 13. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa said diplomatic efforts, meant to ease supply of essentials from India, have already begun. Thapa said people will feel relief in a matter of few days.

Kamal-ThapaThapa was speaking at a face-to-face programme that Reporters’ Club Nepal had organised on Tuesday.

Nepalis are facing hardships due to transit-related inconveniences, he said, adding that solving this crisis is the government’s top priority.

He said the government aims to solve this crisis using a three-pronged approach.

“The Madhesh Movement should be dealt with through talks. The first meeting of the new Cabinet has already issued a call to this effect. We will pursue talks intensively.”

“We will solve transit and movement-related obstructions through diplomatic talks with India,” he said.

Besides, we have also started initiatives to cope with shortage of goods, he said, adding that the government will take short term, medium-term and long-term measures to address shortage of essentials.

Foreign Minister Thapa said Nepal, a Non-aligned Movement Member, will pursue its foreign policy in a proactive and pragmatic manner, in accordance with Panchasheel and the United Nations Charter. He promised to take Nepal’s relations with China and India to new heights.
