Kathmandu, November 5. Nepali and Chinese officials have reached a memorandum of understanding to open seven new customs points along the northern border.
The MoU on commercial operation of these points is the result of discussions that Nepal’s Customs Department held with a Chinese team under deputy director-general of Lhasa customs, Long Chung Woi, in Kathmandu for three consecutive days.
As per the MoU, Kimathangka of Sankhuwasabha, Korala of Mustang, Olangchunggola of Taplejung, Larke of Gorkha, Yari of Humla, Lamabagar of Dolakha and Mugu customs will open for trade purposes, according to a department official.
Similarly, a dry port will be established in Larcha, Sindhupalchowk and Timure, Rasuwa.
The two sides formally signed the MoU at a programme in Kathmandu on Thursday. The Chinese side has also agreed to reopen the Tatopani customs, which was ravaged in the April 25 mega quake and has remained shut since.
