Kathmandu, October 2

Unable to deal with the shortage of petroleum products, proprietors of private educational institutions have started talks about shutting them from Sunday.

They complained that the Home Ministry had not listened to their call: Providing supplying fuel to their vehicles regardless of their registration numbers. The government has been providing fuel to odd and even number vehicles on alternate days.

TU cancels exams

The Tribhuvan University has postponed Masters’ level exams slated to begin from Friday due to the Indian blockade and unrest in the Tarai-Madhesh. The exams will begin from Kartik.

Informally, district administration offices have told us to shut schools, pointing at the national crisis, the proprietors said.

TU has not been able to stick to its own academic calendar. The fluid political situation has landed it in a deeper crisis.

TU has already cancelled three-year and four-year Master’s level exams of different faculties like Humanities, Management, Science, Education and Law in Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Saptari, Siraha, Sarlahi and Dhanusha districs.

Capital-based schools had plans to conduct internal examinations before Dashain. While the Tarai-Madhesh bandh has been affecting students there for one and a half months.

“The political movement and fuel crisis has deeply teaching-learning activities. Schools cannot operate in a difficult situation like this,” PABSON Lalitpur chief Shiva Karki told Online Khabar. He informed that school proprietors had been discussing the possibility of closing schools for a week, starting Sunday .

Teaching-learning activities should be conducted in schools for at least 190 days, as per the government calendar. But private schools teach even for 220 days. Because of the spate of earthquakes, schools closed for one and a half months. They ran classes to make up for the loss of school days. Schools plan to teach students by cutting Dashain, Tihar and winter holidays.

PABSON’s Karki said this time, private schools are discussing the possibility of closing the schools from Fulpati and reopening them right after Kojagrat Purnima.

Earlier, schools used to remain closed from Ghatashthapana till Tihar.
