Won’t take part in talks organised by ruling alliance’s mechanism: Congress

Dilendra-BaduKathmandu, November 20. Nepali Congress will not take part in talks organised by the ruling alliance’s high level political mechanism, the party has decided.

The mechanism has been formed to advise the ruling alliance, so there is no reason for the opposition to take part in it, Congress has said.

The news comes a few days after the government formed a committee under Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to hold talks with agitating Madheshi parties. “We will participate in talks called by the government, and not the mechanism,” said NC leader Arjun Narshingh KC after a meeting of the party’s office bearers on Friday.

Party spokesperson Dilendhra Badhu said that the government should initiate a process to amend the constitution and reach an agreement with the Madheshi Morcha. He said the party leadership will confer with leaders from the Madhesh to look for ways to end the current crisis.
