Kathmandu, Jan 13: The special festival of the Tharu community – Maghi – is to be marked in Tundikhel, Kathmandu on coming Thursday.
At a press conference, coordinator of the organizing committee Satyan Narayan Chaudhary said all necessary preparation for the festival has been completed. A pageantry showcasing Tharu culture and customs would be organized before the inauguration of the festival in the afternoon.
Various delicious indigenous foods of the Tharu community would be prepared and served as part of the celebration of the festival.
According to the 2068 BS Census, the total population of Tharus in the country is 1.737 million. The indigenous nationalities have been residing in 24 districts of Nepal from Jhapa in the east to Kanchanpur in the west. RSS
