NFC’s Kolti depot runs out of food grain stock

31 July, Bajura. The Nepal Food Corporation (NFC)’s grains depot at local Kolti has run out of stock.

The depot had a stock of 8,950 quintals rice grains remaining from the last fiscal year’s quota. Only 200 quintals of it is left after distributing the rest, according to Ramesh Bahadur Singh, Chief of NFC Kolti depot.

The supply of food grains has been problematic as the transport services to the area remains disrupted due to land slides at various sections of the road linking the area with the district headquarters.

Singh said the NFC’s regional office has called for tenders for the supply of food grains and it would be arriving after some days. If that supply of food grain does not arrive on time or is delayed, we are thinking of bringing 1,000 quintals from Martadi, the district headquarters, he said.

Kolti area faces food shortages almost every year. This year is no different. As per the information given by the District Agriculture Development Office, the annual food production in the district from 3,312 hectares of land is 12,670 metric tonnes which is not enough to feed the population throughout the year.

According to Singh, there is a deficit of 27,236 metric tonnes of food grain in the district. RSS
