Madhav Nepal camp asks Oli: How do you select ministers?

Kathmandu, October 15. The ruling CPN-UML has failed to select more names for ministerial positions. Thursday’s meeting of the UML Parliamentary Party, though, approved appointment of ministers in the KP Oli government.

At the meeting, leaders close to senior leader Madhav Nepal said the party should select ministers on the basis of certain criteria.

They asked party Chair and Prime Minister KP Oli to explain the minister selection process. The meeting entrusted Nepal with the selection of ministers in coordination with other parties. The meeting decided to appoint ministers on the basis of talks with parties. A five-member team under Madhav Nepal will hold talks with parties on the selection of ministers.

The meeting decided to make efforts to ensure victory of candidates representing the ruling coalition in the election for House Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The party decided to assign this responsibility to UML Parliamentary Party leader and Prime Minister KP Oli, party Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung informed.

UCPN-Maoist’s Onsari Gharti and RPP-Nepal’s Kunti Shahi are most likely to become Speaker and Deputy Speaker. They are from the ruling coalition.

The Nepali Congress is also eyeing the two important posts. Election for the posts will take place on Friday. UML leaders suggested selecting ministers after the election for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
