A friend in need: French President phones PM Oli, offers help

Kathmandu, November 10. At a time when Nepal has been dealing with an unprecedented crisis resulting from the inhuman Indian blockade, France has expressed willingness to help Nepal and together for Nepal’s economic development.

France’s President Francis Hollande phoned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday afternoon and offered French help to Nepal, a source at the Prime Minister’s Office informed.

Taking note of the earthquakes that hit Nepal, the French president said his country is ready to work together for Nepal’s progress and prosperity.

During the telephonic conversation, President Hollande said he has heard a lot about Nepal’s natural beauty.

About 176 years ago, Rana ruler Janga Bahadur Rana had visited France. That was the last time a Nepali head of government visited the European country.

France had extended an invite to then Prime Minister and Nepali Congress founder leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. But the latter could not visit the country as then NC President Girija Prasad Koirala forced him to resign before the visit could materialise. The NC president had remain nonplussed even when Bhattarai said he would resign after a visit to France.
