Kathmandu, October 7. With the India-imposed blockade against Nepal showing no sign of ending anytime soon, Nepal Oil Corporation is exploring ways to bring petroleum products from other countries.
The NOC is taking this move as per government directives. The government had decided to seek alternatives after India appeared unwilling to supply oil to Nepal and continued with obstructions on its part of the border.
NOC’s Executive Director Gopal Bahadur Khadka said they have started looking for alternatives to bring in oil after the government’s decision to seek alternatives in the wake of the continuing Indian blockade.
“Even at a time of severe shortage of oil, India is unwilling to supply the same to Nepal. That’s why we are about to decide on bringing oil from third countries,” Khadka said, “By this evening, we will decide on the alternative.”
Khadka did not say from which country NOC plans to bring oil. An NOC official said effort to bring oil from China is underway, pointing that a road leading to a Chinese customs is open now.
