Kathmandu, December 5. The United Nations Volunteer Programme (UNV) has praised Nepali volunteers for their contributions, not only during the quake response, but in day-to-day life.
On the occasion of International Volunteer Day (December 5), the agency said that this year was quite eventful for Nepal, and this shed light on the core values Nepal stands for. During the quake, it was the youth that was on the frontline as the first responders, and the sense of volunteerism they showed made a tremendous impact on the response.
“People have shown selfless perseverance through crisis by helping each other beyond limits with a positive attitude unparalleled around the world,” said UNV.
It added that UNV recognises that there are different challenges such as emergencies, climate change, unemployment, trafficking, and social exclusion of minorities and those living with HIV and disabilities. But Nepalis are tackling these challenges with energy, creativity and determination, it says.
